Re: will 140 prop work on alpha?
I don't know all there is to know but the old 140's and 120's were pre-alpha (I think).... I do know they ain't as pretty.... gaskets are pretty much interchangeable tho'.
As for that flo-torq prop tho' ... I don't think the bent prop on that boat is a flo torq. One blade is pretty bent. The insert is not plastic. It's brass with 4 big splines around it which slide over the splined shaft. It also has the rubber hub inside. All the old 140's I've had were made before they started talking metric... before they became known as 3.0L. I've got two bass boats with the old type 140's and a junk 120 on the ground. One has a 165 decal on the hull but I don't have a clue what that refers to because it surely is not a 165 hp. My cuddy is a Volvo penta and tho it's a really good boat & motor & the 170 outdrive seems really tough I sure wish it used the mercruiser props.. LOTS cheaper! The newest boat I've ever had is the 1983 bayliner cuddy cabin
Ayuh,... Like I said, the 140, 'n the 3.0l are the Same motor, the 2.5l is the Same motor as the 120....
The 165 sticker Did in fact mean a 165hp motor, probably an ole 470, or the I6, 165hp...(it'll also be a different gear ratio)
And,...
Like I said, the Propshafts on
ALL the Alpha series drives are the Same shaft, 'n take the Same props....
This includes,
All but the very earliest MC-1s, which had a squared shoulder, which went to a tapered shoulder, 'round the very early 70s, or maybe the late 60s....
