I have a 40 hp Mariner built in 1988. Model 40ELO. this 40 hp mariner can be oiled automatically, which I do no use, or by just adding outboard oil to regular gasoline.

problem is i have lost both my manual, my notes, and my memory.

i need to know the correct Gasoline to Oil ratio for this engine. i want to remember 3.2 oz per gallon, but i also want to remember 50/1 ratio. a 50/1 ratio would be 2.4 oz per gallon. but for the life of me I cannot remember which I should be using.

Had the boat out just last summer, had no problems, but now have just completely drawn a blank.

What should I be using??

thanks for any help.

50:1 has been the norm since the '60's. On today's market the oil is TCW-III BIA rated for 2 cycle engines and will back fit your engine. One pint to 6 gallons plus any additive you want to add.....like Sea Foam to keep things nice and clean. I didn't use it till I saw articles on here about it. Tried it and have been a user ever sense.
