92 Johnson 25hp - Noob Question

Last year i bought my first boat, a 17' 92 tracker deep v . Today i fired it up for the first time of the year, with the rabbit ears on the driveway and noticed that there was some water coming out from somewhere i don't think it was supposed to.

attached is a picture of where the water was coming out, the water is supposed to (i think) come out of the 2 holes at the bottom. However, when it got over 3500rpm's the water was noticeably flowing from around the whole piece, and increased flow as i gave it more gas.

Is this normal? I if not, what could be the issue?

I am pretty much a total noob when it comes to outboard motors and don't want to have the local marine mechanic b.s. me and charge me for nothing.

Is it peeing out of the tail while it is runing? if so that is fine if water comes out of that area because when you have the ears on it too much water could be getting pushed through so it is coming out of there.


I dont like runing the motor with ears i like to put it i n a big garbage can and run it that way so your not over working the pump with too much water.

hmm. Noob here, what do you mean by peeing out of the tail? By the prop, or the bottom part of that piece? Water does flow from there out of the holes at lowers speeds, but after it gets half gas, it starts coming out of the sides.

I had a feeling that there could be too much water coming through. I am going to take it out this weekend and start it up and see if the problem persists in the water.

Pull up some motors on youtube you will see they have a stream of water coming out of a tube. if you do not have water coming out of the pee hole your pump is not working and you will ruin your motor.

Did you try tighting the screws, could be just loose. It might need a new gasket .

You shouldn't be running it over 2000 rpm on muffs unless you want a rod to come out and say HI !!
