Small Sea-Raycer type boats?

A few years back at Disney, we rented small Sea Raycers to use on the lake by the resort hotels. I believe they have the same motors as jet skis. Does anyone know if these types of small watercraft can be purchased brand new in the US? They literally are only about 8 feet long and seat two. I would prefer one of these to a jet ski and would think they would be popular , but cannot find them for sale anywhere. Are they not legal or something?? I am specifically referring to these bad boys: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2158/2257155448_841cfe484b_z.jpg , which as I mentioned, are only about 8 feet long. I would love to have one.

Thanks.

Looks like an outboard engine to me, not a jet ski engine. Either way, I'm sure there are some new models out there most likely using a jet drive. They have made similar models throughout the decades, many being 1 or 2-seat outboard driven boats. Usually a 40HP or less engine is used to keep speeds just this side of insane.

Yup, I rented one at Disney World last fall . . . I think that they are made and sold special for resorts, etc.

I was thinking a small boat like that would be cool just to bomb around in. My recollection is that it had a 10 hp outboard., probably could have used a 15 hp, but they do not want you having 'too much fun'.

You guys are right -- it wasn't a jet ski-type motor. Don't know why I thought it was. As a matter of fact, we had rented two -- my wife had one of my children in one and I had my other child in the other --- and I remember their boat was a little bit faster than ours. I now see that there are two options on the engine size and perhaps we had the smaller engine. Anyway, I still think it would be neat to have a boat that size and style with a small outboard to tool around on.

What about a Kawaski Jet Mate? 8' long seats three, I have a 91 with a twin carb 750 installed.

An outboard with a jet drive instead of a prop, maybe? I'd think Disney would lean toward the 'safe' option, given that any yahoo with little kids can rent a boat. Just a thought.

If you are up for a project, I believe Glen-L boats has a few designs that would fit your category. Could be a fun project.
