I have a 98 17' Ranger Cherokee w/Evinrude 90SPL- new to me:prop was recently reconditioned but it seems like it is not reaching power, and in fact acts like it is slipping into nuetral at high RPM, (engine safeguard?) engine runs great but doesnt seem to have power at the prop. any thoughts or suggestions on what to havre checked out? Would this not be detected during a shop inspection of the motor? Longtime fisherman....short time boat owner!!

Sounds like the prop hub is slipping. Take it back to shop that did the rebuild and have them check it.

Re: 98 90spl

place a mark on the hub and another in line with it on the barrel. Run the engine until the problem occurs. If the hub is slipping the two marks will no longer be lined up.
