Crusader 210 (Chevy 350) engines missing t-stats

We are rebuilding a 1968 Alglas, has 2 Crusader 210's in it. Neither engine had a thermostat anywhere, no t-stat housings were found either. Finding a cooling system diagram for these old things is just about impossible. Anyone have any insight on the best way to set the cooling systems up when we put the engines back in and where we should put thermostats? We will be running off the coast of Maine, blocks will be fresh-water cooled.

Thank you,

Don

Ayuh,... Is it cooled with a heat exchanger, 'n raw water pump,..??
Keel cooler,..??

I'm sure We can figure it out,...
Gonna need alot more info though....

How's the manifolds, 'n risers plumb up,..??

Yep, using heat exchangers for cooling. As far as the rest of the plumbing goes, looks straightforward. Coolant leaves the resevoir, runs into the exchanger, into the pump. From there it enters the block, manifolds, then back to the resevoir. Was hoping to find a t-stat in the resevoir outlet, but neither had them. Really can't see any other place to put one without adding a housing somewhere, just a matter of finding the best place.

Ayuh,.... The Usual placement of the T-stat, is in the T-stat housing, on top of the intake manifold....

On ours there is really no room for a housing, at least any of the housings that I've seen. Here's a pic of one of the engines, both are identical as far as cooling setups go.

Wow,.... Whata piece,....

I'd Guess, that you'd pull those 2 bolts between the rad. cap, 'n the carb, then lift that Whole Housing, to find the T-stat.....

Those 2 lonely bolts in the top of the huge housing, is where the T-stat would live on a normal motor...
I'm reasonably sure, those bolts go into the intake manifold, at it's outlet, where the T-stat oughta be....

That was a before pic. Engines have been completely rebuilt, about all that is original is the block and heads. The guy who had it before obviously didn't care what things looked like. Everything was pulled off for the rebuild, and we never saw any t-stats or housings. Guess I'll be looking for a couple of them since both engines are identical.

Ayuh,.... Wasn't there a little lip/ depression in the top of the intake manifold, for the T-stat to sit in, under that big housing, at the other end of those 2 bolts,..??

No lips or depressions to take a thermostat. The resevoir bolts go into ears on the water outlets on the manifold. Water leaves the intake manifold and goes right to the exhaust manifold. Was hoping to find a t-stat in there, but nothing. I'm going to try to find a housing that will work with these engines. Some place out there should have something that will work, even if we need to do a little engineering.
