I have a 72 100hp 'rude. I rec'd a service manual for it as a gift. The section on general service (and throughout the manual) refers to Type A, C, and D lube, as well as GE Versalube G-322L. I have always been using Type C in the lower unit (I bought the motor about 20 yrs ago), but did not realize there were the other "recommended" lubes. For example, I have been using trailer wheel grease in the zert fittings, and a light thin oil on the various linkages.

What are the equivalents of types A and D (and the GE), or should I try to find them?

Thanks for the help, and here is hoping for a wonderful summer on the water!

The GE lube.... I have no idea.

Type "A"..... (Normal Grease) Use any "Anti Corrosive" type grease.

Type "D" .... (Used in high rpm areas (heat), generator bearings, etc) Use what is normally referred to as "Extreme High Pressure Grease".

We sold a lot of Type A grease. In hindsite, it really wasn't all that great. The newer Anti Corrosion grease is much better. You can also get similar products from Merc and Yamaha.

The GE lube was used on the bendix splines of a starter mtr. I believe I still have a tube of it laying around.
