I just bought a 95 mariner out board that has not been ran in about a year and a half. I put fresh gas & some seafoam into it. It started the first time i hit the starter it was in neutral and just took off at high speed, i have it in a barrel of water with no prop on. Every time i start it does this I cant hit the kill switch fast enough. I thought in neutral it would only idle. i checked the linkage & adjustments everything seems to be in order. No matter what i seem to do it just screams. no idle whatso ever. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: 95 mariner

there is a problem with linkage and or butterflies on the carbs,,,I hope you soaked the cylinders with oil prior firing it after a year and a half,,,if not pull the plugs and do so while you perform another linkage review
