Looking to rebuild a 1984 40hp EL

I'm wanting to get some info on a 1984 40hp Elec Long Shaft. It locked up. Is it worth tring to rebuild? I handy with the tools, but I never have rebuild a motor? But I have time and a place. Only thing I know is the motor is in good shape, and he is wanting to give it up......Give me some advice.

Just like with any other motor that is locked up, it depends on what locked it up.
If you have to replace crank or the whole power head it will get expensive.
