I don't think the hull design makes much difference, although with a tri-hull you won't be trimming the bow down to deal with chop like you would a deep v.
I love my trim tabs on my 21' but i don't think they are worth the money for a small boat (14-16). You can always trim with the motor, or weight, for bow/stern and by shifting weight port/starboard.

Will trim tabs work well with a trihull? i have heard good things from v hull owners.

Really not needed for their primary purpose (lateral stability and adjustment) with a tri-hull. V-hulls -they are much more needed.

Tabs will still help a tri-hull. They porpoise just like any other boat on occasion. Smart tabs would be the cheapest route since like you point out tri hulls wouldn't need fully adjustable tabs much for lateral stability.
