cant get the lower unit of my 1972 merk thunderbolt 500 50hp any ideas has video

hi iv been looking for hours on how 2 get the lower end off my motor i got the motor in the basement im trying to get the lower end off 2 check the inpeller and i need to fix the seals on the lower end im geting water in there



i have taken off all the bolts got wedges in the hammered the crap out of it the gap must be 3/4 of and inch i think the shifter connection is free i can spin it freely in the power head without it turning in the lower end so it must be the drive shaft

i couldn't find this square headed bolt people were talking about in another thread my motor is a 1972 4 cylinder thunderbolt 200 50hp

Sounds like corrosion on the drive shaft. Flip engine over, spray penetrating oil onto shaft, allow to drip/flow to head of motor and wait. We have had a couple that have taken a couple days to free up. When you reassemble, use lots of grease on the shaft.

Hey neighbor, is this motor new to you? If no, when was the last time the LU was off?

Looks like you've got all the hardware out so it "should" just drop down. Keep on with the wedges and penetrating oil.

When it does come apart, do a pressure test on it before taking it apart to determine where its leaking. I'm in the process of doing mine now and found that one of the driveshaft seals on the lower pump base was bad.

the motor is new 2 me i have no clue when the last time it was off the motor i finaly after a lot of swearing got it apart now im looking for a seal kit for my water pump if anybody has any let me know i also found a crack in the block i think i wil need a new powerhead if anybody had an old 1 kickin around
