Been on the search for months for the right priced aluminum fishing boat at the right price finally found her. It is a 1988 Lowe 170. floor are solid but has some carpet wear so I possibly just totally rebuild the decking later.
Welcome! It's great to find another Lowe 170 owner out there. Mine is a 2000 bought from a friend last year who upgraded. It's been a great starter bass boat for me.
Nice little boat there, is that an Evinrude 40 or 50 on it, I have the same engine and love it, the things are bullit proof if you take care of them, mine is an '81 50.
It is a 1988 Evinrude 48 special. Yeah these are great little motors had one long while back and loved it. I have wanted a boat this style for year but never wanted a bass tracker. This boat is a nice upgrade to from my 14 foot jon boat!!
Great find!! I have owned 2 1988 Lowe 160's with 48 hp Johnsons. One bought brand new and the other a few years later in better than new condition. These boats are almost all Aluminum so shouldn't be much to rebuild. My last one that I swore I would never sell until I died developed a bad leak in the bow area under the heavy riveted keel. Decided it was way too much trouble to fix so off it went to another owner who was made aware of the situation. These boats are much deeper than most and while not riding well in rough water will get you home in some serious bad situatons. Been looking for a while to find another in my area at a decent price. Tighten the deck screws on a regular basis because the do tend to loosen on a regular basis with all the pounding from waves.
I just remembered the one problem I use to have with both of mine was the fuse block up under the dash was not really protected well from the elements and the terminals would corode and loose conductivity. If I were to buy another I would replace it with a better design that uses the blade type fuses instead of the old glass tubes.
