I'm looking to get a bigger motor for my 18x60 center console flat boat. I'm torn between the Johnson 2 stroke and the yamaha 2 stroke I'm looking at. I'm looking for the best reliability and fuel economy. I'm a die hard Johnson/evinrude guy but my dad has had a 225 yamaha ox66 for 12 years and he's never had it in for any repair work and he's got 2300 hours on it.

Lotta folks like the Yammie, Dr. JB, Moderator on here also (his own words). Ranger Bass Boats seem to have more of them on their new rigs that any other badge. I don't like their 90 vs my 90 Merc because it is short on cubes, but If I re-powered my boat I would go looking for a loop charged 115 Yammie; already been scouting around. Course now that my Merc is running like a top, that idea has faded.

Other thing is you have 25 more HP and that is about a 20% increase (didn't do the math) in hp. That will be noticeable.

I'd go with the 115 hands down.

I'm leaning more towards the Yamaha cause the price $2500 all controls 500 hours versus the Johnson $3500 no controls but only 60 hours on it.

I would lean toward the yamaha, not only is it bigger and cheaper, they also have a good reputation. I own a 85 Johnson 115, and an 86 Yamaha 115. Both are good running motors and they appear to me to be very simularly made so if you can work on one then the other seems natural to you. For what ever reason I find the Yamaha to be quieter, they both drink gas pretty well and one is on a pontoon the ohter a CC so it is hard to compare performance.

I'd suggest the Yamaha 115. I've had one 26 years, and only repair was replacing an oil injection module and one thermostat. Otherwise, it's been bulletproof.

The horsepower is very conservative, as I understand they put out 138 hp at the prop. It's also very quiet and efficient on fuel.

Ok bought the Yamaha today. Didn't realize it till I went to mount on my boat that the Yamaha is a 25 inch shaft. My boat takes a 20 inch shaft. Bought a jack plate. Hope that fixes this.

If you need help getting it setup, many experts on here that know how it's done. One that I haven't heard from in awhile is Mr. D. Hadley from some place in So. FL.

for that reason I'd go with the Yam. You can always realize the fuel economy by going slower.
