Crazy Idea - Could I Build A Boat From iPads?

Hi,

This may come over as crazy and I appreciate it is, but I'm thinking of building a boat out of iPad's and iPhones.

Do you think this would be possible?

I would love your ideas on possible designs?

I work in marketing hence the reason and not know where to start.

Any ideas would be most welcomed.

I'd be looking to sail the boat from England to France over the channel.

Well, yeah, I'm sure it could be done, but why?

Sounds to me like a great way to destroy a million bucks worth of nice computer hardware and end up with a boat that's not good for much more than a cool post on youtube.....

From a marketing standpoint?

I want an iPad. I really do. I just can't justify spending the crazy money that they cost. Send me one in the mail and I'll be a loyal customer for life. Show me a video of you destroying a couple hundred of them for some silly TV commercial, while I'm wishing I could go buy just one, and you'll **** me off to the point that I'll never even consider buying your product.

I know nothing about boats but do you think it would be possible from a design sense?

The cost would very, very high but I may have funding for it.

A boat build out of ipads is probably the best idea I've heard all week.......should give you an indication of the quality of people I work with.

My plan is to build a boat out of gold bars. Please send me your gold jewlery, coins, etc., so I can get started melting it down.

Does being creative necessarily give you the ability to tell the difference?

You'd probably have to buy a "Buoyancy App" for each iPad/iPhone, making it prohibitively expensive.

Is it possible to build a boat out of ipads/iphones? Anything is possible, how much money you got? The questions that I initially think of is what's the point? A marketing stunt? Most would be under water and rendered unseen!

BUT, if we're just hypothesizing?

If you faced all of them with the displays facing "out" would they still be unusable?

I would think making a reinforced jig that would hold all the ipads/iphones facing outward (think like some of the iphone cases that the phones clip into), vacuum wrap them as a whole in a plastic that is similar to what is used for a screen protector...that might make it water proof (assuming you never let it hit anything that would rip it or puncture it). At least this way they'd be usable?

Obviously, you'd want the jig to be "boat" shaped.

I would PM oops...he could probably get you going in the right direction?! Of course, he's used to conventional boat building methods and I'm pretty sure never used and ipad in any part of the process? Maybe?

You could give away all the products if you were successful in your endeavor?

Last time I dropped a phone overboard it went straight to the bottom... not to mention LI-on batteries hate water. It's all about water displacement to float your boat. Anything will float as long as it displaces more water than it weighs. Or something like that... physics should only be discussed in the daylight hours.

in my business (custom aircraft builders) we have a motto, "anything is possible" all it takes is the right people, and the funding to make the dream happen. so, yes.. its possible, but gonna be very expensive. my first suggestion would be to use the ipads and iphones interlaced with fiberglass, but i wouldnt expect much in the event of making them functional

That stuff is guaranteed to be waterproof.

How much of the boat would be ipads, there would be no way to do the entire thing out of nothing but them as there would be very little strength, you would almost have to build a sub hull and cover it with them but making a boat out of nothing but them I would say is impossible, they are too small and you would have no strength whatever.

I would have your investor send me the money immediatly and I can more effectively **** it away over here in the states
