I am looking at a really nice boat with a 1998 merc 100 2+2. Ive done some reading on how the 2+2 works. The owner says it trys in engage around 5 mph with his setup. In the summer I troll 5-7 mph. Would anyone know a thread or if people have played around with this 2+2. Im curious if i can go back to all four firing at idle with simple carb swaps. Or maybe just have one carb not firing at idle?

No and no. Just put a prop next size larger on it and watch rpm on top end to ensure you not dogging it. A 19 pitch will put you right about 7 mph @1000 rpm

Hi,

Do you really mean "Mercury 100"? Actually, to the best of my knowledge the 2+2 carburation system only applies (at least for 1998) to the two-stroke 115's and 125's. Search "Mercury 115 2+2" (and variations on this theme) and you will find a lot of forum discussions on this excellent motor. And don't even dream of fiddling your carbs to put in extra idle needles!

If in doubt, post another thread with your questions and maybe I can help.

From a distance, the motor looks like a 115 HP.

Merc makes a 4 cylinder 100,115 and 125hp( 1988-1993 105 cid and 1994-2005 113cid) all are the 2+2 engines, only difference is the carbs..

Understood!

In Europe, only the 115 and the 125 were marketed (both models were assembled in Belgium), with the 1800 cc block (that's 105 cid).
