What year is my 20hp merc

Hi I am new lad on the block Hope i am posting in correct place ----- I have bought a 20hp Mercury L/S manual it has a number plate on the swivel brkt. as follows OC291534 any one no what year it was built. I have checked a few lists on rhe internet but this number does not come up Thanks Denis

Look at the top of the power head for a metalized tag embossed with the Mercury logo, the date of manufacture, the model number and the serial number. If the tag is not in evidence on top of the power head, look on the lower-starboard side of the power head.

Also, re-examine the OC291534 and be sure that the C is not actually a G

Gerry I found the round number plate the number reads C or could be a G not qiute sure followed by 231534 any help Denis

OC291534: Model 1200413LD MERCURY 1991 200XRI

OG291534: Model 1040411SD MERCURY 1996 40

So, if it is a Mercury, we have a 200hp engine or a 40hp.

How many cylinders is it?

Gerry It defiinitely a C231534 And looking at the colour transfer on the engine cover . On UTUBE there was a 20hp the same and was titled Mercury 20 hp year 1993 Thanks again Gerry

Thanks again Gerry for all you work So its 1991 model It has 2 cylinders that ties up with the boat and trailer year Tnanks Denis

Hi gerry I have a small question On my 20 hp Merc How do i remove the fuel sight fillter does it pull or screw off . Any Idea where I can get the owners manual for my 20 hp Mercury Thanks Denis

Please bear in mind that I am not sure what year your engine is, though the parts listings favour the 1993. However for the 91/93 the parts listing is the same and here is the link:

Hi Gerry thanks for trying to help . But I am still lost wether the filter pullss of or screws off But looking at one of the exploded views of the filter asseembly there looks like a thred at the top ,so it must screw off Thanks Denis

It doesn't unscrew Denis. It's a "ball & socket" type fixture and it has to be pried off. Needle nose pliers wedged between the two parts worked for me.

Thanks again Gerry I managed to open it today, I took the risk and unscrewed it off. Must be a different model to what you thought Cheers Denis
