Paint and primer ?

When painting an intake manifold ( rust spots )on a 350 Mercruiser ( on motor ) after cleanning do I prime before painting ? If so what primer do I use ? I have the high temp engine paint

You can, if you want to use a primer . . . Rustoleum makes a high temp primer, but I rarely see it in the stores. Otherwise, you could use an automotive engine primer, which may be more readily available.

If you are like me, you just use the engine enamel and forget about the primer.

Ayuh,... I paint my motors with plain ole rattlecan Rustoleum, in whatever color I want....

Motors don't get that Hot anyways,... or Shouldn't...

If the intake has a cross-over, that'll burn off, no matter What paint ya use...

If ya want to prime it,...
Buy whatever primer the manufacturer of yer topcoat says...

I never mix makers....

What is the crossover on the intake manifold for, what does it do ?
