need help with merc lower unit

I am having trouble removing the lower unit on my 1978 20hp merc . I removed the nuts and one hex bolt and it dropped about 3/8 and seems to be hung on something else. is there any thing i need to remove from the shift shaft? any advise would be greatly appreciated.

There are 2 nuts exposed on the bottom. Then you pop off the little pop out on the back top of the motor above the prop. This will let you get to the allen bolt that holds the sacrificial anode on. Then there is one larger nut on the front that you have to turn it as you lower the unit. That's it.

One of those nuts I first mentioned may be hid under the anode. I just had one off today but that's the jist of it. There is nothing internal holding it together.
