I wanted to see if I could get some good simple advise for fixing our family boat. My dad and I are trying not to spend a fourtune on repairs and are doing our best on our own with research I've found on the internet. We took out the old seats and carpet and then pulled out and dug out all the rotten wood and dried out the areas the best we could. In those spots we filled in foam and put in nice doug fur boards that were coated with ployurethane to seal the wood. Then we used a special foam to wood caulk, to help glue down and screw down the new marine grade plywood flooring. We did not replace the entire floor, we only took out what was bad. So now we ready to put new fiberglass material on the the old fiberglass up and around the edges and fill in any gaps. We don't want water to get in those spot to rot the wood again. From what I've researched there are many brands and different ways to do this fiberglassing project. I would love some advise if anyones has any on the best and easiest way to do this. Also if anyone knows if the temperature has to be above a certain degrees to fiberglass, that would be helpful? I've also found this product called Marine-Tex Epoxy, anyone know if this would be better that using fiberglass? We want the boat ready for the beginning of June and would like to get this part done as soon as possible. The building we are working is not heated 24 hours a day and is only heated if needed for short times. So we try to work on the boat if the temp is above 45 degrees. Also I'm not sure if we can or should put any other wood sealant on the flooring because of the Carpet Adhesive. I want to make sure the new carpet will stay adhered to the marine plywood.
