Hello gentlemen, I need a point in the right derection. The 78 model 20 hp in question runs great, but the driveshaft has a small groove cut in it and the bearings seem to have a little play. Which lets the water in and the oil out. I've used it like this all last year. I would just change the foot oil before each trip. But what I really need is a name of someone who rebuilds these. Or sells rebuilt ones. I've spent a lot of time online and havent came up with anything. I know you guys are the experts, so any advice is appreciated. Oh and by the way I am in South Carolina, but I'm willing to ship it.

Thanks, Terry

There is a list of outboard salvage yards in a sticky here on the forum that you can see who might have what you need. There are others on here that might be able to help on the rebuilbing also as it takes special tools to set the gears correctly, and from the sound of it you will need either a prop shaft or driveshaft.

Sometimes changing the seal can stop the leak.
It needs to be replaced and installed just a bit higher or shimmed up so the seal rides on a different spot.
If your real tricky and have access to tools/shop you can remove the shaft and have it welded and milled down.
I've seen people use Marine tex in the groove and sand it down. Then a new seal(desperate measures)

Excellent idea to move the seals up a little. They are new anyway, and that won't cost a penny to try. I'll check out those salvage yards too. Thanks a lot.
