Need boat buying advice

New he and need an opinion on a boat. A friend of mine is selling his 22' 2008 stingray 220sx with a 5.7 330hp I/O. he bought it for 48 and will sell for 28000 (14 hrs on it). Is this a good deal? Ate stingrays any good? its a lot of money for me but the thing looks brand new.

The SX is the cuddy cabin version with a closed bow, I think. Dealer tried to talk us into one when I was boat shopping. Supposed to be fast, but not real practical for me. 4 people would be a crowd on the one I looked at, couldn't easily fish off it, etc..

Based on what you have described that sounds like a good deal. I would shop around and see what else you could get for the same price. If there are comparable boats out there then you should only buy the stingray if it has the layout that you like. If it seems like the price couldn't be touched then.. well you get the idea.

Yes, stingrays are good boats. I believe the only wood is in the transom and floor and not the stringers.

The boat is only 4 years old but remember that boats can see more deterioration due to neglect than due to use. Especially if they sit for long periods. For that price I'd definitely have it surveyed. Even if the price seems to good to be true, delamination, wet foam, or other problems could turn it into a nightmare.

The above is only my opinion so take it for what it's worth.

That doesn't exist. If it's a Mercruiser, then it's probably a 300hp 5.7 MAG MPI.

Only 14 hours on a boat that is now 4 full summers old? Why no use? What maintenance did he skip as a result?

I thought that the SX designation on stingray boats was used for Volvo setups.

EDIT: I went on the site and looked, The SX in the name does not seem to correlate to the SX outdrive on current model year boats.

If it has the Volvo 5.7 MPI HO, then I think they were rated at 320 HP.

Check nada.com for fair market pricing.

There is the issue of buying something from friends.

Stingrays are generally light boats, so they haul ***** and can use less fuel at cruising speeds. Quality is mid-range IMHO.
