stuck thermostat

guys i discovered my thermo is stuck in the closed position.this is a new 142 deg marine. the motor temp gauge never went above 180 deg.can this cause hydrolock.this is a 1987 350 io merc alpha-1.new temp gauge.thanks.

Nope, 180? does not cause a hydrolock. Since you have a new gauge, is it accurate? Did the engine diesel (run on) when you shut it off? That could cause water in the cylinders.

first make sure the newly installed thermostat is not installed upside down.
second was it overheating before and is that why it has a new thermostat?
