I'm mounting my trailer lights on my trailer and i grounded the white wire to the trailer frame and hooked up the rest of the wires. only wire i didn't connect is the brown wire which is for the side markers but when i tested it only the right side signals. the left side doesn't. i don't have side markers so i didn't hook up the brown wire

The brown is for more than just the side markers . . . it is the 'running' lights, so it would also illuminate the rear lights (running light portion). So, the brown wires should go to the rear lights. The green and yellow are for the brake/directional/flasher to the rear lights.

Look at YOUR diagram.
The brown goes to everything! :)

If the LEFT flashers are not working ....

1. Yellow wire is not properly attached.
2. The Left Light Fixture is not "Grounded."
3. Bulb is bad. Swap it with the known good one on the Right.

Yes, brand new bulbs can be bad. it is not "Good" until proven Good! ;)

The tail light fixtures have THREE connections.
A Brown Wire >>> Tail Lights
An Other Wire >>> Brake/Turn (GRN/YEL)
The Metal Bracket >>> Ground

TroubleshootingTip...
Turn on your Tail Lights, and FourWay Emergency Flashers, to light up everything.

With the white wire connected to the trailer the whole trailer is grounded. The mounting bolts for the lights are the ground for the lights.
I also run a white ground wire to each light.

The white wire from the connector at the Ball is attached to the trailer Frame. This is your GROUND Point!
Each Light Bracket needs to be attached to the metal ground of the trailer frame, No Paint, No Rust, Clean Metal! ;)
A light smear of grease on the clean metal will help keep it that way.
An extra White Wire is added by some folks for extra insurance. Not Required, but not a bad idea.
