lower unit oil on mer 40hp

i have a 1990 mercury 40hp 4cylinder i recently bought some foot oil and when i got home i realised it said for 75hp and up will this hurt it or do i need to go get a diffrent kind?

As long as it is "Marine gear lube for mechanical shift motors" it is the righ type... Your motor doesn't know it is not 75HP or up.

thanks for the fast reply and yea its mechanical shift 90 weight marine foot oil from quicksilver
