Hi, I have a Volvo Penta 1990 (305 Chev) motor, it has a Carby and points ignition.
What fuel do I use in it.
In Australia we have 91 octane with 10% ethonol, 91 Octane (straight), 95 Octance and 98 Octane.
The 91 octance is 15cents a litre cheaper than the 98 octance and over 250 litres come to $37:50 which is a lot to pay if not required. I'm happy to buy the higher octane if thats what it needs but cannot find this info anywhere.
cheers Tim:facepalm:

I think 87+10% would work fine, but if you can get no ethonol, it will work better, and last longer. Most motors were designed to run on 87.

Timmy, be sure to understand the rating method for the numbers you see on the pump. As stated in the graphic from Don S. there are two methods, RON and R+M/2.

91 RON is the same as 87 R+M/2. The R+M/2 number is what is most commonly stated in the USA. Most of the rest of the world states the number in RON.

You more than likely would be fine with the "straight" 91 octane as I bet it is stated as the RON number down under..
