I guess I have too much time on my hands, so I pulled home a free 1964 Thompson last Sunday. I'm just starting to get an idea of how much work to be done.

Here it is coming home:

Didn't look too bad, had to clear out about 50 pounds of wet leaves first.

Lots of rot under the leaves

Any way, looks like a new bottom, keel and lower laps, and all new decking.

The rest of the flip:

I have the keel off, still need to get the garboards and all the laps below the below the splash rail, then inspect the keelson and sister keelsons (not expecting good news). I'll need to strip the paint to get at the screws.

The plan is to get the bottom work done, flip again, then replace the rotten ribs (most of them), and work on the topside.

Re: 1964 Thompson Sea Coaster

How is the restoration going? There is a 1964 Thompson Sea Coaster for sale in my neighborhood. I recently retired and am considering taking on this boat as a project. However, I have never restored a boat of this size and type before. Should I start with a boat like this?
