friend has 1985 cris craft with a 3.0 mercruise outdrive with no engine when he got it....we are looking at a120 hp engine and not sure it will connect to outdrive.... need info bad,,, ths
ty for your quick and simple reply... will the splines from the 3.0 outdrive match up with clutch splines on the 120, because he doent have the fly housing that was with the 3.0 outdrive.......pervious owner of the 3.0 let that go with engine ty
The only difference between a drive for a '120' and the drive for the '3.0' is the label on the back. EVERYTHING ELSE is the same, including the yoke splines, and the ratio.
I know you didn't ask... but just be aware that you will notice a big difference in performance. My father had an 18' Sportcraft which performed well with the 3 liter it came with. When that engine died, he replaced it with a 120. The difference was amazing - in a BAD way. If your main goal is simply to get from point A to point B, then yes, the swap will work. Just don't expect much in the way of performance.
