i was fixing up a 81 evinrude 115 hp i decided when given the oppertunity to buy a 77 johnson 85 hp "javelin"I am looking for some input on the idea of swapping carbs for one reason i just bought the ones on the other motor but the only visiual differance is the ones on the 85 hp have butterfly choke the other carbs have solenoid. are the solinoid carbs better way to go?

Unless you are really really good at setting up carbs I wouldn't do it, the carbs on your 115 now are jetted for that engine the other carbs are jetted completely different and wouldn't work unless you rejetted them and then after all that work you would end up with exactly what you had to begin with so they may look similar on the outside but it is all the stuff inside that you need to worry about.
