That may be a hard part to find for an 888/233 engine. The thermostat upper housing had (I think) 2 inlets/2 outlets as there were a myriad of hoses running to the manifolds/risers. Just a question, what is the condition of the risers/manifolds currently on the boat? I'd be worried if they are original as the thermostat housing would have been in the same shape as the manifold passages . . .

Since the engine is 1976 and the only stern drive engine from Ford still offered by Merc then was the '888' (302 cu in), I have looked up the parts for that engine... The thermostat cover is part# -62898A1, the housing is part# -889333, both are still available new, but very expensive.

Don't forget the 233! :) That being said, I'd replace the upper and lower thermostat housing even though he only specifically mentioned the raw water inlet (lower housing) having the issue. $170+shipping @ ebasicpower.com (which I've used and would recommend).

DUH!!! Yep... missed that one....

Fortunately, the parts are the same (if it's a stern drive, not an inboard)... :D

Thanks everyone it is the lower one In need but I dont think the boat is worth fixing up the upper bow of the boat is paper thin and dont have the money for the work to be done and I dont want to fall threw throwing the anchor out either. So ill prolly just gut the boat and scrap what I can and junk the rest . unless someone on here is in northern Va and needs parts
