The Hi-Jacker is used to adjust the engine vertically on the transom (raise it) for best speed and performance.

The old style transom mounted steering assembly will not be needed if your engine has a steering tube through the front of the transom clamps. If it does not have this tube, you have the option of finding newer transom clamps with it and this would be the best solution as your transom mounted steering tube would not work very well with the jack-plate.

You can also try bolting the tube to the exsisting transom clamps with a couple of braces--I saw it in another post but don't remember which.

Last photo shows the transom clamps on a 105 with the steering tube passing through and the connecting bar to the engine nose. First photo just shows how easy it would be to change transom clamps.

Here is what I think Frank was trying to remember?

If you look close you can see the external tube bolted to the clamps.

You may be able to find a set on ebay. You can use transom clamps from 3 and 4 cylinder Chryslers and Forces from about 1978 up until 1990. The Force clamps will have a different way of bolting them to the transom but will still work. If you can find a junk engine at a marina, you can salvage the parts.

If you look closely at the photo attached to Tater's reply, you should be able to see how to make a set of mounts that will bolt to your existing transom clamps.

Unfortunately, I have many engines but no extra good transom clamps so I can't even offer to sell you a pair.
