How do I find out what this is ?

87-63468A1

If I search the # I come up with an ignition switch but how do I tell what it is supposed to work with?
IE - years, and I/O vs Outboard etc?

If it will work with my old mid 70's 165 inline 6 then I will try to buy it. It is advertised locally.

I assume if it is a basic ignition switch, it should be fine and the only issues might be whether it is set up to just plug in or if I would need to alter the wiring to hook up.

Re: ignition switch part number

On IO's the switch isn't that critical. Outboard use special switches that sometimes just barely fit in a control box. If you find a standard Off, run, start ignition switch that will fit your dash, it will work fine.
The part number you have is an OEM switch that you would have to order from a Merc dealer. But it's really not necessary.

That's a standard OFF, ON, START switch. It should work with you engine... The part number comes back as a Mercruiser switch.
