Hello guys. told to "part the
I recently purchased a 1969 Tahiti with a 1969 mercury 1100ss. It is all original supposedly. The lower unit was stuck, and I got it free and spinning. I have the motor spinning with the starter, but no spark. The coil seems to get power, but just won't spark at the plugs. I was told it may be the switch but, I am lerious. I pulled the switch box, and now I am stuck. I went to a local spped and marine, and they litterally told me to "part it, because it is rare, hard to work on, and worth a lot.." I love this boat, saw that the 1100ss can move it to around 50+mph, and would love to keep it and get it going again. Can the switch box be rebuilt or perhaps another year will fit? I having no luck looking online, and both my mercury manuals do not cover my motor. Any help is appreciated. I will post pics asap.

Thanks

Hi Copyright; Welcome aboard. Faztbullet has given you a solid tip. I looked your outboard up in my Seloc motor manual. 1967 was last year Mercury made the 1100SS. If it is a 1967 then has no points. However if 1966 will have points. Point gap. 008-.009? If it does have points, could be that simple. Happy & safe boating pard.

you will find a used switchbox on ebay cheap if you are sure that's why there is no spark. look for the part # off the original backside toward carbs. i have the same motor merc1100SS serial # 2102679. don't mess with the ignition parts unless you know what your doing. post the serial # and the guys here that know what they are talking about will get you going

Yes I apologize, overlooked your statement in your original post you had removed switchbox which means definitely type 2ignition ,And yes never attempt to work on your ignition parts unless you have skillset to do so. One of the biggest clues you gave was having to free prop shaft. Probably the biggest enemy of our outboard is sitting idle.
