#1. What should a tune up consist of if having a mechanic do the work and (#2) what should I expect to pay? #3. My motor does not have an air intake filter or baffle of any sort. Do I need one for machanical or safety reasons?

What year/model serial#??
The tune up can be as simple as changing the plugs and checking the timing.
Or that and changing the lower unit oil too.
Depending on the year as to wheather or not it had a breather.NO airfilters on an outboard.
Shop rates vary from $85 to $100 hr.Could be 1/2 to and an 1 1/2 hours plus parts.Plugs could cost up to $7 each.

A "Tune-up" Is so simple that you are better off doing the work yourself. However: Why do you need a tune-up? Is there a specific problem you wish to address?
