I have a 1998 evinrude 40 hp with a tiller on a 16 foot lowe. I have two questions. First there is a wire that goes into the block i think its above the head but right near the thermostat housing. what is this wire used for? and my second question is there anyway to add on a overheat alarm has anyone done it or have any advice on doing it. thanks in advance this site has been a huge help!!

Re: evinrude overheat alarm

If it is electric start it should have the horn behind key switch if it was rigged properly, you can test to see buy turning on key and shorting the temp wire on head to ground and horn will sound if installed.......

it is electric start but i dont have a key. you just put it in neutral and push the button on the side of the shifter to start it.
