Howdy, smashhead.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Step one, get an OEM Service Manual. www.outboardbooks.com It will tell you how to overhaul your carbs.

If you have questions, post them here.

Good luck :)

First things first - there is no 65hp Evinrude for the 1979 model year. If it is really a 65hp, chances are that it is a '72 or '73. If it is a 70hp, it could be a '79.

Look for the data plate on the port side of the transom bracket and report back to us - we'll try to help more.

Year Model

65hp

1972 - 65272, 65273

1973 - 65372, 65373

70hp

1974 - 70442, 70443, 70472, 70473

1975 - 70572, 70573

1976 - 70673

1977 - 70773

1978 - 70873

1979 - 70973, 70983

There is a plate on the side of the and it says 1979 ohio. But on the plate with the serial number it says 1990. How can I find out what year it is. I have the model number. Would that help?

Re: 1979 Evinrude triumph 65 hp

Its a 1973 by the model number. I just got my outboard running, I think it was just bad gas. I installed a new gas line and cleaned the fuel filter and it fired up just fine. The guy I bought it from had it for several years and barely used it. He just informed me that he got the carbs flushed in july so I think ill be good on those for a while. Do you guys know what ratio of oil to gas I should be running? I asked the previos owner and he didnt seem to know too much about the engine.

Ok thanks, I wasn't sure so I ran 16:1. I only ran it for about 30 seconds hopefully that didn't hurt anything.

Nope. Won't hurt anything. It would foul out your plugs if you ran it at 16:1 for too long.
