self bailing cockpit

i have a backcountry flats boat the scupper valve is below the waterline and when sitting still fishing the valve does not seal and lets water in the boat as soon as you power up above idle it goes right out and runs perfectly dry is there a valve or something that can be put in the floor drain to keep the water out and still work as good drain

If you get some sort of check valve (allows one-way flow, which is out) with the scupper setup, ensure the scuppers/valves are clean (so they work right). The link above is a great start.

You can usually take the scupper valve apart. Turn the rubber valve diaphram around so the flap goes toward the hull and put it back together. The valve will still drain and you don't have to spend a dime.
That is if you have a rubber valve type scupper valve.

and the rubber flapper is hands down the best, most reliable and least likely to get blocked open.

many of the in line valves can be problematic.

I really appreciate all the posts it gives me the answers i really needed this was really aggravating me as i really like this boat going to upgrade motor soon although it onlyhas a couple hundred hours on it thanks again randy

look into moving weight forward... batts, fuel, etc..... also when you do upgrade the motor, if you can get a lighter engine that will help too.
