I have recently bought a 14' crownline runabout boat off craigslist. I got the boat motor and trailer for 300 bucks and would love to get her running so i can use it next year. Problem is that the previous owner didnt have any paperwork on anything. but for 300 dollars i feel like i can go through the hoops to get this thing road/water ready. i know there is a bunch of crownline guys on here that would hopefully help.

It has a 60 HP Gale outboard on the back. IS that legal?

i also have no clue about the year or make of this boat which im looking for you to help me with.

Can post more pics soon.... thanks guys, first timer on the site

Hi.....Welcome to iboats.

That boat is pre 70's.....so a vin number might be gone......there should be a plate on the inner transom area. That will tell you max hp for the rig.

As far as title....it really depends on where you live.....in Canada....not so bad......in Texas....well....thats a different story.

Stay away from Clayton, NY if you do not have a CURRENT registration of the boat. I get boarded every 2 years. I am a NJ boat. Same with the trailer registration & plates.
State police, USCG, NYF & G, Sheriff. They can EACH ticket you in this Depression.

Motor is no proof required.

I would surf www.crowline.com Send a E MAIL to them with a picture of it asking if they did put VIN numbers on that boat. Then you may get lucky on registration. Bring some proof of sale with you. cancelled check, & craigs web site printout of it.

Good luck.

Hope it is not a HOT setup.

ya i really REALLY hope it isnt a hot set up as well. i have a proof of sale on the boat and i bought it off a family man that looked like he was needing money for xmas. on the bill of sale he put the mc number and the serial number of the motor allong with his phone number. i never thought about printing off the craigslist post but that prolly would have helped lol but i think its a 1961 boat. ill have to do some more research tho. thanks guys

HI nkballa. Great little find. Here are some handy links that should help with your search.

fiberglassics.com (great site for looking up catalogs and brochures for older, hard to find boats)

http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/04/s/columns/max/24/index.cfm (great link for geting and keeping the motor running for years to come.)
-btw. you motor is a Gale brand which was a division of OMC who also made Johnson and Evinrude motors. While most parts for J and E were interchangeable from the earl-mid 60's on, the Gale brand was a little more "high end" and may have a few parts that are slightly different from its J/E cousins. However, all of the major components should be the same. There are TONS for threads here in the forums that can walk you through any job you way want/need to do your new boat. Congrats. Happy New Year. Keep us posted on what you do with her. We love pics. Cheers.
