Purchased 1995 (think) Mercury 5 hp 2 stroke motor that has both a small gas tank on it, and a place to hook-up my new 3 gallon external gasoline tank with hose line assembly. Noticed the on/off fuel value and wonder if I should turn off the fuel there when I hook up the new external 3 gallon tank, or leave it on. Does it matter?

I'm pretty sure you want to turn off the fuel when connected to an external tank

Turn the top tank off.If not it will siphon into the 3 gal.
Oh yea keep the top tank full or it will rust and be of NO use.J
