Re: key switch

Bronco;

Your s/n comes up as:

80 80/800 4-cyl 6232941 6432900 1983 USA

From here:

http://www.marinshopen.se/Motorer/O...Mercury2takt4cyl4085hp/tabid/487/Default.aspx

The diagram I gave you yesterday covers s/ns 5582562-6432900 which includes yours. If you look at the diagram, you will see that 5 wires from the harness are used for the switch while the other two, brown goes to the tachometer plug and grey goes to the choke button on top of the box.

Here is a condensed version of the service manual. Let the page load for 30/40 seconds. You will see on page 275 that your s/n is a thunderbolt ignition without distributor and on page 284 you will see the diagram that is the same one from Maxrules.

Hard to understand the problem from your wording. Is the switch a new one which you are trying to hook up and if so, what is the p/n?

You say that yours has a purple wire, do you mean the switch or the harness?

You will see from the colour code in this link that Purple is just a 12 volt positive to the ignition switch:

I apologize if it is just me not understanding what you are asking.
