I recently attempted to clean out my 1986 johnson 8hp and started with the carburetor. In the process I broke off the original top plastic cover at the part that connects to the throttle. The part number is 0331735 and is #10 on this diagram -
http://www.marineengine.com/parts/j...8RCDE&manufacturer=Johnson&section=Carburetor.

The part is discontinued but they have a replacement part # 436342 for 5-8hp. I installed this part, although it is a little different than the original, and now the gas enters the carb but does not flow properly through the replacement part.

I was wondering if anyone has had the same trouble or knows any way of installing this replacement part that allows the carb to work properly.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
The replacement parts should fit together easily.
Be sure the cover gasket and needle valve retainer are installed correctly.
What anything else done to the carburetor at "clean out?" Perhaps something was overlooked; needle / float valve...
Can you post old vs. new pics to show the covers?

this is a picture of the new cover on the carb with the old cover next to it. The main difference is that the old one has the idle needle in the front and the new one has a screw in that place and the idle needle on the back left side.

ill post more pictures of the two covers once i get the new one off the carb again.

Thanks

I would not have thought you would forfeit front adjustment.

Are you supposed to refit your needle to the front by removing and relocating a screw plug to the side? Just a thought. I am not the expert. Would that get you back to front adjustment?

How do they compare from the bottom? Are the fuel passages mapped the same?
