Mercury 115 wiring question

1984 Mercury 115 I6

I am installing a new stator on the motor, and my Mercury manual shows the red/white and blue/white wire going to the top switch box and the solid red and blue wire going to the bottom switch box. My wiring has the yellow band on the striped wires and they were going to the bottom switch box prior to disassembly.

Does it matter, or as long as the striped wires go to one switch box and the solid go to the other is it okay?

Thanks

My original wiring was the same as yours. See pic. This is a pic I took before I replaced my switch boxes on my 1984 115.

Re: Mercury 115 wiring question

I hooked the new stator up the way the old one came off with the striped wires going to the lower box, and the solid wires going to the upper box. Fired it up on the hose, and it seemed to run fine. Hooked up the DVA meter and got 87/92 volts on the red wires, and 235/237volts on the blue wires. So, everything seems fine.

As long as the wire set go on separate boxes it will work fine.
