Hi all. I would like to replace the propeller shaft bearings and seals on the above mentioned engine. Do I have to remove the Lower Unit before removing the Prop Shaft Housing?

According to my service manual you do not have to drop the lower unit to remove the shaft housing.
Probably a good idea to pick up a manual when working on these things

Noticed that the manual didn't say one should drop the lower unit first, but thought it safer to check.

I have never done it myself, but the Yamaha service manual does not list pulling LU in the steps for pulling the shaft housing.
But it does list it for pulling the forward gear, so I believe it is correct.

I am not sure about how the shift shaft and shift dog interaction will interfere with anything is my only concern
