This is about the remote for a 75 horse 4 cylinder Merc. (1985)
The other day while changing the impeller I "accidently" changed the gear from forward to backward. As a result,it took me a few hours to get the lower unit back on and in the process I used the remote in a rough way to get the shift shaft in the right position. Long story short, now the remote will only move from neutral to just in forward gear and the acceleration part does not want to move.Backward,it does not go at all. I removed the cables from the box and it is still the same.Would taking the remote apart be a simple job for a fairly advanced shade tree mechanic or is it a good idea to just replace the entire remote?,and if so what number Commander shift box should I get?
Thanks,Rolmops.
