Re: This is it.

cool.....read here first before you start the rebuild.......look at friscos vids.......and read the first 14 pages of my thread below. dont worry about the extension stuff..just the stringers and the transom.

there is also a thread in the restoration section called skanky beast re visited......this used to be the forum how to on rebuilds

Re: This is it.

Read and Study and FOLLOW this thread. It is almost EXACTLY like your boat and it's done the RIGHT way.

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=441929&highlight=parrisw

But the key for you is to Listen and Follow the instructions given by the people here and not argue with them. Just do what they tell you to do and ask them to clarify when you don't understand what they are saying. They will be glad to post pictures and what ever else is necessasary to help you as long as you Follow their instructions without arguing. You must also understand that to do your boat right it is going to cost you a minimum of $1,000 dollars. Are you prepared to invest that kind of money in this boat? You could probably junk it and buy a better boat for $1,000 dollars.

Re: This is it.

If you are really serious this time, and willing to listen to the guys on this board (not the Gerry rigging neighbor, or the old foggy who does it his way) then hats off to you...

Take lots of pictures, read lots of threads, ask questions, and DO IT RIGHT!!! ;)

IMHO, you should be paying some attention to your motor to see what kind of shape it's in. Just assuming all it's going to need a heli-coil and a carb clean is inviting Murphy to bite you in the a**. This whole project, or restoring a fresh project, would be for not if you hang this motor on transom in the spring and find out it's shot. If I were you, I would probably either fix the buggered plug threads and check compression, or pull the head all together and check the condition of the cylinders. If you don't have the chops to correctly install a thread repair device in the head, there is no shame in dropping the head off at a machine shop to have them tackle it for a few bucks.

Re: This is it.

SBL, good for you man. Good for you! Take a new look at the whole deal and do what's right, excellent!

Now, my advice, actually the same as it's always been...

Chop up that boat. Sell the OB for parts. Sell the trailer. You'll come out way ahead! Seriously, you will.

Unless you have some sort of wonderful emotional attachment to this little red boat, then by all means rebuild.

I don't think that's the case, so let it go.

Nirvana = Grunge = Crank it up;)

My favorite was when the bicycle guy got thrown off the bridge into the drink:D

SBL - if you want to spend some time and money to get an education, I'll agree with my buddy oops there. It's a small boat, straightforward rebuild, the guys are here to help ya make it happen.

If you want a good, usable candidate for future use (as I know you really want something different anyway) I'll politely disagree with my buddy oops (though I know exactly what you are thinking oops) and say just enjoy your sailboat and save your coin for something you really want down the road.

Cheers:)

Make sure you build the stand properly so it can hold the weight of the motor without collapsing

Re: This is it.

ok buddy....

there are tons of posts on building stuff like that on this forum.......every thing......so just ask....

but please......if we give you a link...please read it all the way thru....not just look at the pictures......there is tons of information in what the poster is saying that can help you with every little detail....

on the forum we used to tell a new builder to read ....read .....read. i suggest the same to you.....
if you allow us to guide you... and follow our basic instructions....you will have a great boat done as low cost as we can make it for you.

remember.......take lots of pictures of how the shifter is set up.....even i get confused re assembling them
