Hey Justin

As with anything, things can go wrong. Is the boat/motor well maintained? You could have a well maintained Force run better than a neglected Johnson- for example. It's like anything- you take care of it, it will take care of you.

Just (if possible) do a compression test, and budget for changing the impellor or just do the waterpump anyways- assuming compression is good. Otherwise, I am the happy owner of a 1988 Force 125hp, and they are the easiest, best engine to work on yourself ever......

Hope this helps mate- and welcome aboard.

There is nothing wrong with force outboards I have had three that ran just as good as the mercs or johnyrudes.
I think they got a bad name because they were less expencive than most.
Alot like bayliner boats its all about the way you take care of it.
Good luck

I have never seen a Force 150 that idled properly or smoothly.

You will likely NOT be able to find anyone to service the motor.

After a compression and spark test.Check the oil in the lower and proceded with caution.
The motors not made anymore.Parts are getting harder to find.
On the other side your power to weight ratio is high.Lots of power and quick response.
If taken care of they can be a real good motor.
If you buy get a FACTORY manual. There are free downloads for the manual on line.J
