Hello Guru's,
I have a txeic, 1991 225 looper. I have one cylinder .030 over (#4 I believe). Should there be different jetting for that cylinder? and if so, Is it the corresponding carb that is right in front of it (not the opposite side like on crossflows?)?
I have all #62 main jets, but the mids and idle are all screwy. I have five # 47's, one #50, and half 33 and 31's. I bought the motor in pieces so I dont know what went where. Obviously she is idling rough. Also, wasnt there some service bullten that said to up the mains to #65 for some reason (ethanol?)
Where should I be with this motor?
thank you again for your time

Re: 1991 Johnson 225 carb jetting

Okay, I answered part of my question off of the evinrude website looking up oart numbers. It is #33 port and #31 starbord on the idle jet. I got rid of the #50 and put in a 46 I had. The site says the mains should bee 55's so 62 is definitely richer.

Final part of the question remains, should there be different jetting for the .030 cylinder?

the carbs right in front of the cylinder should be 62d idles 30s mids which are the top air bleed hole should be the 46to 50 better to be too rich to start than lean how do the pistons and spark plugs look shine a bright flashlite in the spark plug hole and take a look

The BRP web parts web site Main jet #62D all 6 carbs, Idle air bleed jet item 3 in parts manual is #31 or #33, does not say which jet in which carb service manual indicate where the jets went. Item 5 orifice #55 same in all 6 carbs.

There was letter/bulletin later models to increase main jet 2 sizes for break in for rebuildt engines.

Thank you Dehydrated I appreciate it. Clanton, I found the port and starbord indication at shop.evinrude.com; 1991; Johnson; carbs. The parts description on that page indicates 33 port and 31 starbord. Makes sense being I have 3 of each, but other than that I do not really understand the port to starbord distinction but I guess I do not have to. So I guess there is no different jetting for a single .030 cylinder (the other 5 are standard)?

I have about 3 hours on a hone and ring job on this motor. I decarbed the pistons and I am running heavier oil for a break in, so a visual inspection is not going to tell me much. The plugs did look identical upon inspection which I guess is a good thing.

Oil 25-1 for breakin. The different idle jets suppose to make for better idle.

Re: 1991 Johnson 225 carb jetting

I have found over the years that the best set up is for the early style carbs are #30 for idle and #28 for intermediate and #64 for high speed but since your a long shaft you could use #58 or 60's as the long shaft use smaller mains...

no differant jetting required for a oversized piston didnt see from the first post this was a rebuild .
