02 yamaha v-max

Cant figure out when i am idling around graphing my oil buzzer starts going off.

Make sure it is not your overheat alarm.

+1 on overheat alarm. Need to check the cooling system--including the little thermostats on the heads.

oil alarm is only for low level in tank on motor
do you have something indicating what the alarm is like a light on the tach display?

It does it from start up I get about 5 min before it starts going off

Still have not said how you know it is oil alarm
and if it is have you looked at the level when alarm is sounding?

The buzzer will stop if you hold the gas down for a min. While it is going off you can not get on plane till it stops. If you stop and turn the switch off then back on it is still going off.

Not sure thats what it is. Oil can be full still does it

Is there different sounds on the alarms? If so it is the same sound as being out of oil.

Always give a complete model #! The alarm buzzer is the same one for overheat and for low oil. The beeping sequence may differ. When the alarm goes off SAFELY disconnect one thermo switch at a time. Does the alarm stop. if yes then it is an overheat alarm. Maybe switch is NG or t stat is NG or maybe PRV is NG.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If the alarm stays on after disconnecting both thermo switches then you may have an low oil issue and follow the procedures for t shooting the oil system. Good luck!!!

It's definitely going into a fail safe mode--probably indicated by a red light on the tach.
Since the oil injection system is a manual system, and pretty much trouble free, you might want to:

1. Check that both oil tanks are full--external tank & small tank mounted on the head?
2. Feel of head to see if one is hotter (than the other.) You could use an infrared thermometer--to see if there's a difference. (One head hotter than the other would point to a closed thermostat.)
3. If it's been very long since water pump impeller replacement (or if you have just purchased the boat), go ahead and change the impeller and lower unit grease. It's a very inexpensive item to replace on Yammie's.

These three checks should solve your problem.
