I need a new motor and manifolds for my boat but was wondering what motors would work. Should I stay with the original or ? Currently has a Cobra EFI 302 and a Volvo outdrive. My manifolds were full of corrision and the boat overheated and there is a knock in the engine. I can get all the numbers off the current engine later if needed. Can I switch to chev or what is the recommended thing to do? Any advice would be appreciated.

You would need to get the chevy/volvo bellhousing/shaft combo. And your front mounts may need adapting. But it is doable. You actually have a volvo setup if the drive is volvo and should post on that forum.

I would probably just get a rebuilt 302 if you are happy with the current performance.

Switching to a Chevy is going to be pricey since you need a new flywheel housing.

Switching to a carbed Ford 351 is another option if you want to boost power. The flywheel housing is the same between the two engines.

It's more than that, you would need everything but the transom shield and drive. Nothing on the Ford will work on Chevy, so you would need mounts, coupler, flywheel housing, manifolds, risers, complete engine, marine carb, fuel pump, distributor, starter, and every other electrical and fuel item for the Chevy, all of the cooling systems are different.

You could go with what is called a Bobtail engine that has all the accessories already on it, but they cost big bucks.
If you are tight on money, like Bruce said, just put a long block in it, sell it and get you a boat with a Chevy.
