thunderbolt 5 ign voltage @ start

5.7 mercruiser 260 hp/ alpha 1 gen 2<br />going to diagnose my hard start problem which may be cause by my replacement ign switch not getting voltage to coil during crank. i assume the thunderbolt 5 should get a full 12 volts at crank and during run. or is it like an old style which needs a ballist resistor to knock down voltage during run
