cobra ? are these years compatable

can anyone tell me if a mo#985683 tag on outdrive fit a mo#985689 tag on outdrive . i have a chance to get it for 300$ both are cobras,thanks for the help

The outdrive will physically bolt on, but the gear ratios are quite different.

The #985683 outdrive was used with 2.3 L engines and has an overall gear ratio of 2 to 1.
The #985689 outdrive was used with 5.7 L and 5.8 L engines and has an overall gear ratio of 1.41 to 1.

thanks for the anser ,but can i change these gears over and will most parts on the2.3 fit my 5.7 outdrive..i do thank u for your exsp.

Parts from one outdrive can be transfered to the other if they aren't worn out and can be removed without damaging them, but you would need a complete gasket kit, seals, bellows, shim kit, and potentially a water pump kit, bearings, housings or other minor parts. if you'd be re-using your existing upper & lower gearsets, I'm curious why you need to find a new outdrive in the first place. The gearsets (if in good condition) are the most useful part of a used outdrive.

Also, installing a gearset in a different case will require the use of a special jig and tools, following a precision shimming procedure.

What exactly is wrong with your existing outdrive Wayne?

nothing yet, nowing parts for this cobra is exspensive.and finding one for 300$with the gimble ,and now nowing these parts can b used except the gears.i think i got a good deal,thanks for your exsp. wayne
